Perhaps two of the most iconic leaders in recent times, Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte and newly-elected U.S. President Donald Trump have been likened to each other by the media, news outlets and other political personalities for their striking similarities.
The two are highly recognized in international circles, with both both being known for their unconventional ways of leadership which has constantly drawn praise and controversy in the eyes of many people. And now, with Trump ready to serve as America's 45th president, he spoke to the media and said that he wants to be like Duterte.
He said "I want to be like Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, a hardworker and an intelligent man. He's fulfilling what he promised, and I will fulfill what I promised the Americans," Trump also stated that he is ready to restore and forge the relationship of the United States with the Philippines which has been put to strain during the previous administration.
Trump said "Duterte is my friend, I will work with him and indeed I'm going to fight drug-lords not only in Philippines but also in the whole world, we are going to restore our good relationship with the Philippines,"
It will be interesting to see how the two presidents interact with each other moving forward as they both fulfill their promises with Trump planning to "make America great again" while Duterte promises a drug-free county in the Philippines.
