Pantaleon Alvarez Recommends Abolishing SK and Kagawad Posts to Save P24 Billion in Government Funds

Speaker Pantaleon Chavez tackled the thought of abolishing the Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay kagawad posts in order for the government to save funds in which he estimated could be up to P24 Billion if it happens.
He said this during an interview last Wednesday, August 31 at ANC's Headstart and made polarizing opinions in the eyes of many.

With an estimated budget of about P8.5 Billion to the Sangguniang Kabataan and P15.8 Billion to the barangay kagawads, Chavez said that the funds should be diverted into institutionalizing barangay health workers, purok leaders and barangay tanods who receive a small amount of pay for their work.
He said "Alam niyo po ba kung sino ang nagta-trabaho doon sa barangay? Purok leaders, barangay health workers, barangay tanod, daycare workers. ‘Yun lang. And yet they are underpaid,"

Chavez also added "Sila yung dapat i-institutionalize natin… Sila yung nagdedeliver ng services doon sa community."

What do you think? Should the SK and barangay kagawad posts be abolished to provide a better salary for the purok leaders?
